Developing a selection

Copy a treatment and apply it to selected photographs in Browse or Choose, with a summary before you start.

1. In Develop, copy a treatment with ⇧⌘C.
2. Select target photographs in Browse or Choose.
3. Press ⇧⌘V or choose Paste Treatment… from the Photo menu.
4. Review the changes and download estimate, then start.

A clipboard indicator appears in every mode while a treatment is copied. Hover to see its source photograph; VoiceOver reads it too. Click ✕ to discard the copied treatment.

Review the summary. The sheet counts photographs that will receive their first treatment, replace the selected treatment, gain a treatment beside ORIGINAL, or be skipped because ORIGINAL is selected with five treatments already stored. Zero counts are omitted. If every target is at that cap, the operation is rejected.

Download estimates use averages by camera model, falling back to the library average when metadata is missing. Detected masks are recalculated per photograph.

Only selected photographs are changed. A folded set includes its cover alone; unfold it to select other members. An empty selection prompts you to select photographs.

Progress and cancellation. Only one batch can run at a time. The activity row shows Developing · N photographs. Click ✕ to stop after the current photograph; completed edits remain. Originals are fetched one ahead of rendering, and previews update as work finishes.

The source photograph is skipped without a download if its treatment already matches. Other matching targets are still fetched and written; only their unchanged previews are reused. Repeating the batch can therefore download those targets again.

Undo. ⌘Z restores recipes, selected treatments, previews and badges for the run, and removes treatments it created. If the run cannot account for every written photograph, undo is unavailable and the status bar explains why.

Failures. The activity row names skipped or failed photographs and counts those eligible for retry.

• Try again retries failed downloads, preview renders and catalogue writes using the batch’s original treatment, even if the clipboard has changed.
• A file that cannot decode keeps the new treatment but has no edited preview. The grid shows it undeveloped, and no identical retry is offered.
• Photographs removed from the catalogue during the run, or at the treatment cap with ORIGINAL selected, are skipped and named.
• A catalogue write failure, such as a full disk or read-only volume, stops the batch. Earlier successful changes remain and are covered by undo.

Command line. rawctl batch uses --from for the source photograph and requires --collection or --rating for the targets. --limit defaults to 200. Use --dry-run to inspect counts without changes. Command-line batches cannot be undone. rawctl refresh-previews rebuilds edited previews an earlier version made, --limit defaulting to 200 and --dry-run printing counts only.
