Grid

The gridSquare thumbnails show filename, verdict and stars below each photograph. A kept photograph has a D for its edited treatment. The selected photograph has two treatments.★★★D2★★★★

Press ⌘1 to view photographs as thumbnails at an adjustable size.

Click to select, ⌘-click to add or remove photographs, drag a selection rectangle, or ⇧-click to select a range. Double-click a photograph for Loupe. Double-click within a multiple selection for Compare.

Sort and size. Choose oldest first (the default), newest first, highest rated or filename. Filename breaks ties between capture times recorded in the same second. Thumbnail size is preserved when the window or sidebar changes size.

Photograph display. Square cells centre each photograph at its own aspect ratio, inside a black surround. Captions align across the row. Selection uses corner brackets. Selected undecided and rejected filenames brighten; kept filenames stay amber.

A treatment count without D means the photograph is displayed as ORIGINAL. One treatment has no count. Treatment names appear in Develop’s version picker.

Small cells. At 128 pt and above, a caption line shows the filename and stars. Long filenames shorten in the middle, preserving the extension. Below 128 pt, verdicts and stars move to corners. Verdicts use the same glyph in the caption and corner. Below 96 pt, the surrounding bands disappear and marks use dark backgrounds over the photograph. Badge sizes are limited to keep them legible. Loupe’s filmstrip follows the same size rules.

Rejected photographs. Rejected thumbnails are dimmed in Grid and the filmstrip. Cleanup displays them at normal brightness for review. Loupe and Compare always display them at normal brightness.

Placeholders. Unavailable photographs show NOT LOCAL or UNREADABLE. Very small placeholders omit the text.

Selection and scrolling. A filter can hide the selected photograph; switching to a phase that includes it restores it. A new set opens at its end; otherwise the grid preserves its position. Rating, rejecting and new iCloud arrivals do not force a scroll jump.

Thumbnail transitions and rating animations honour Reduce Motion. Sets share a warm background and a header with a stacked-frame icon and count.
