Frames keeps selection, editing and file deletion separate, and uses local previews to browse your library.

Choose and develop. Review photographs with keep, reject and rating controls. Develop includes global adjustments, curves, colour mixing, crop, straighten and masks. Masks can be drawn by hand or detected from the photograph. Save several treatments and export finished files from Browse. Local previews. The grid never downloads originals. It uses previews already stored by Photos or Frames. Pausing in Loupe for roughly a second can fetch the original; moving quickly through photographs does not trigger that request.

Originals can be fetched when you:

• pause on a photograph in Loupe;
• zoom past fit, including in Compare;
• open Develop;
• press Load original in the rendition panel;
• press Fill them in a source panel to read capture metadata;
• export photographs. rawctl export requires --rating, and authorises the downloads in that export plan.

If an opened photograph has no proxy at any size, Frames requests a 2048 px rendition from Photos once to display it.

Four phases. Choose uses Sweep, Rate, Inspect and Cleanup, in that order. Phases cannot be reordered or added.

Verdicts and ratings. Keep and reject are verdicts. Ratings use one to five stars. Rejecting a three-star photograph preserves its rating.

Deletion. Only Cleanup can delete a photograph, and deletion requires confirmation. ⌫ normally rejects the photograph without changing its file. In Develop, it removes the selected dust repair. If a photograph disappears from its source, Frames marks it missing and preserves its rating and verdict.

Editing preserves the original file. Frames can publish an edited rendering to Photos, where it can be reverted.

Appearance. Frames uses a dark interface in every system appearance to keep the light around photographs consistent.
