Downloads

Frames downloads originals from iCloud when an action needs them, and uses local proxies for the grid.

An original can be fetched when you pause in Loupe, pause on a comparison in Compare, zoom past fit, open Develop, press Load original, use the storage panel’s fill-in control or start an export. Originals are not fetched speculatively. Arranging a comparison uses available previews until you rest on it; zoom or press Load original to fetch one sooner.

The grid never downloads. It reads Frames’ stored proxies.

Shared requests. Several Compare panes requesting the same original share one download.

Interrupted requests. A transfer that has passed halfway completes even after its last viewer closes. The download API cannot resume partial transfers. Files use temporary names until complete, so interrupted downloads are never opened as finished originals.

Cache. Downloaded originals have a size cap. Frames removes the oldest downloads first at launch.
