Working in Browse

Browse shows photographs from the selected collection, with search, filters, organisation and export controls.

Press B to open Browse. Choose phases do not affect it.

1. Select All Photographs, an album or a folder in the sidebar. A folder includes its subfolders. Filter the tree by name to find a collection.
2. Press ⌘F to search photographs or open the Explore drawer to select detected words, cameras and lenses.
3. Set the control band’s RAW only, Edited, Monochrome or minimum-rating filters.
4. Choose a sort order: oldest first (the default), newest first, highest rated or filename.
5. Select photographs with click, ⌘-click, a selection rectangle or ⇧-click for a range.
6. Press C to review in Choose, D to edit or E to export.

Edited matches photographs whose selected treatment differs from ORIGINAL. Monochrome matches the selected treatment’s process. Turning the rating filter off preserves its threshold and shows a dimmed preview. Browse filters persist when switching to Choose and back. Inspect’s threshold is separate.

Filters include only matching photographs, including within sets. A folded set selects its cover. Unfold it with ⇧K before selecting other members. Sweep’s handling of sets is described in Working in Choose.

Photograph details. Press I to open the info panel. With one photograph selected, RATING and VERDICT let you set stars, Reject, Keep or Unset. The panel also shows filename, capture and import dates, dimensions, megapixels, development and treatment status, and original location. CAPTION and KEYWORDS let you add text for search and export. These editing sections are hidden for multiple selections. With no selection, the panel shows a message.

Sets and pairs. RAW+JPEG pairs appear as one photograph in Photos and folder sources. Two RAW files with the same stem remain separate. Related photographs are grouped on a warm background with a set icon and count. Use ⌘K to create a set, ⇧K to fold it and ⌥K to choose its cover. Sets remain open until folded by hand; the state persists across sessions.

Save a search. Click Save above the grid to store the query and filters under a name in SMART. Counts update as the catalogue changes.

Sidebar. Press ⌥⌘S to hide or show it. Sorting and hiding rows affect only Frames. Creating, renaming, moving or deleting Photos collections changes the Photos library and can sync through iCloud.

Histograms. Grid has no histogram. Loupe shows it after decoding the original. When only a proxy is available, the histogram says needs the original. In Compare, rest on the comparison, zoom, or use Load original to obtain the decode.

Export. The export sheet shows required downloads, estimated size and free destination space before you start.
