Chapter 06 · Masking
6.6People, part by part
Create masks for a person’s face, skin, eyes, eyebrows, lips, teeth, hair or clothes.
In Layers’ + popover, click People by part when people are detected. Use the back chevron to return to the main mask tiles.
- Select All people or a numbered person.
- Select the parts to mask. Counts show how many selected people support each part.
- Choose separate layers or one combined layer, then click the button showing the mask count.
A layer for each is on by default, creating names such as Person 2 · Lips. Turn it off to combine shapes in a layer such as Person 2 · 4 parts or People · 4 parts. Single-person photographs omit the number. The complete action is one ⌘Z step.
Available parts. A person can be detected without a usable face. The panel reports this, for example Faces found on 2 of 8 people here. Those without face landmarks support Whole person only. Hair and clothes also require face landmarks as starting points. Teeth requires an open mouth. Zero-count parts explain their requirements.
Hair and clothes use Select masks. Click their chips to refine them; for example, exclude a hat mistakenly included with hair. Other face-part masks do not accept on-canvas refinements.
Opening this panel detects faces once from the existing decode and keeps results for the session. Creating hair or clothes triggers the extra selection calculation. Parts are stored by kind and identifying face point, then regenerated at export size or on another Mac. Part masks are not cached on disk. Older Frames versions that do not recognise a part omit that component while retaining the rest of the layer.
