Words of your own

Add keywords to individual photographs, then search for them in Browse or include them in exported files.

Select one photograph and press I to open the info panel.
Under KEYWORDS, type a keyword and press ⏎.
Repeat to add more keywords, or click a chip’s ✕ to remove one.

The section appears only for a single selection, between CAPTION and SCENE. Return saves the keyword without closing the panel. Chips are sorted alphabetically.

Spelling. Keyword matching ignores case. Harbour and harbour are one keyword, displayed using the first spelling entered. Accents remain significant: zoë and zoe are different.

Keywords are stored in the catalogue separately from detected words. Catalogue backups include them, and clearing the analysis index preserves them. They are not written to Photos.

Search. Browse searches your keywords and detected words together. A breakdown such as 88 you tagged · 324 recognised shows each source. A photograph matching both counts once, as tagged. Empty parts of the breakdown are omitted.

User keywords require an exact match and have no prefix completion. Detected-word suggestions can appear before a user keyword matches. Committing the complete suggested word includes photographs with that keyword.

Several words. harbour winter searches for the single user keyword “harbour winter”. It does not find photographs tagged separately with “harbour” and “winter”. Detected-word search still requires both words separately. Quoted phrases such as "negative space" are entered as one keyword.

User keywords remain searchable when the analysis index is empty.

Export. Frames writes the catalogue’s keyword list as IPTC Keywords. This replaces keywords already in the original’s metadata. If Frames has no keywords for the photograph, the exported file has none. To preserve keywords from another application, enter them in Frames before exporting.
