Looking closely

Use the navigator to move around a zoomed photograph, or the magnifying glass to inspect detail while the whole photograph stays visible.

Both work in Loupe and Develop. Neither is available in Compare.

Navigator. It appears automatically above fit and disappears at fit. The thumbnail shows the current crop and edits, with a rectangle marking the visible region and the rest dimmed.

Click anywhere inside it to centre the canvas there, then drag to pan. Drag the navigator’s border to move it; on release it settles in the nearest corner. Frames remembers that corner across launches.

Magnifying glass. At fit, press G or click the glass button beside the zoom slider. Drag the circle to position it. Scroll over it, use the pill under it, or use the menu beside the glass button in the band to choose 100%, 200% or 400%. Magnification is remembered; the glass starts hidden each session.

Zooming above fit or activating any of Develop’s six canvas tools hides the glass. Its button dims when unavailable.

A small ring marks the sampled area at its actual size, with a line connecting it to the enlarged circle. Drag the ring to inspect another area while keeping the circle in place. Near an edge, the circle moves inward to stay on the canvas. At the photograph’s edge it shows only the available part of the sample.

The label shows magnification and INTERP when pixels are enlarged beyond the available detail. This applies above 100%, and at 100% if the current render is smaller than the original. The label moves with the circle.
